The Most Understanding

I love Charlie’s understanding heart.

He has his first field trip coming up this week at school. They are going to a fish hatchery then fishing. He’s been talking about it for a month. Because of his allergies they require a parent to go along. I have no problem with that what so ever. Being that he is in kindergarten and there’s a lot of them they do not want you to bring siblings. So Nathan agreed he would go. Then we found out it was an all school day trip. Nathan has too much going on to miss a whole day. So now what?
Nathan and I figured out a plan to make things right for Charlie.
Today we were outside, I had just given the boys a popsicle. They were sitting in their gator eating them so I thought I would just tell him.
mommy: Hey Charlie, you know your field trip this week?
Charlie: Yeah! We’re going fishing.  You can go Mom.
mommy: Well Daddy was going to but now he has to work. Remember your teacher said I can’t bring your brother and sister?
Charlie: Oh yeah.
mommy: Well I thought maybe instead of you going fishing with your class I would take you, Gage and Tinleigh to the zoo here!  We haven’t been there yet and I thought it would be fun. Then next weekend Daddy will take you fishing.
Charlie: ok! We can go to the zoo? That’s fine Mom. So I’m not going with my class?
mommy: No buddy, but Daddy will take you fishing.
Charlie: ok!

That was it! He was fine with it and I wasn’t going to keep dwelling on it. I was expecting tears and arguing. He is so laid back and just awesome.
Now I just pray it doesn’t rain Wednesday!

Fishing

One very hot day we decided to go fishing. We waited until evening, it was still hot.

Apparently everyone else had been fishing earlier in the day because NOTHING was biting.

The boys still made the most of it though.

They caught grasshoppers.

Daddy caught the first frog.

Then Charlie caught one for Gage.

Poor little frog!

We took the long way home to watch for deer along the tree lines.

Even though the heat was high no one was bothered by their allergies.

We washed hands off before leaving to help prevent any allergens getting into their eyes. Why is it as soon as kids get their hands dirty they have to rub their eyes?

Great big day! (gross picture)

We started the day headed to a friend’s house. My husband, my mom, Charlie, Gage, my nephews and myself. It was one of the best days ever. The first few hours we fished and took rides on the paddle boat. My nephew caught 5 fish!

Then I realized I hadn’t packed a single diaper. I had packed snacks and any medication the boys might need but no diapers. Next came rides on terrain vehicles and tractors. Then I was challenged to shoot a bow. GAME ON!  I’ve never actually shot one but was pretty sure I could do it. So we’re all taking turns then my nephew shoots. Finger in the wrong spot, feather fletching lodged in his index finger. Poor guy is only 8 and it hurt. We couldn’t pull it out so off to the ER we went. I drove and my mom came along. I left the other three boys with Nathan and his buddy. I called and told Nathan to just take Gage’s diaper off and let him run naked. We weren’t at the ER for an hour and I get a text picture. I haven’t laughed so hard in forever. Little guy had to go so he went! So gross. Then I get a phone call. They had gone inside with the dog. Turns out Charlie is allergic to dogs despite what the tests said. Charlie’s eye swelled right up and he was coughing. So Nathan gives him Benadryl that he had in his pocket. Cracked it open and dumped it in some root beer. Well recently Charlie has been having reactions to everything and root beer is one of them. Nathan didn’t know and it wasn’t his fault. Poor Charlie another allergen with an adult dose of Benadryl. By the time we got back to the house everyone was exhausted, smelled like fish and we were all sunburnt. Not bad, just a warm pink. Charlie looked like he had been in a boxing match. I had stopped and bought Gage some diapers on the way back and we bought them all something they could eat. Charlie passed out on the way home and slept a good 13 hours.

Despite the ER trip, allergy attack and poop accident it was one of the most fun days we’ve had in a while!
