Allergies

Here’s the run down on what my family is allergic to.

Gage: Feeding tube dec 2012

Food trials he has passed

1. blueberries and green beans – had to stop pork

2. strawberries, rice and lemons

3. cocoa and tapioca

4. oranges, black olives and fish

5. cherries, tomatoes and pork in moderation – failed

6. Corn – failed

current trial 7. banana (reaction) plum (reaction) carrot (reaction) cauliflower we tried to get him to eat squash but he just doesn’t like it.

These are the foods he was off of before getting his tube wheat, soy, sesame, beef, celery, mustard, nuts, tree nuts, peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, eggs, corn, rice, oats, all fish, pork, green beans, deer, black bean pasta

Charlie: soy, *rice, *oats, beef, *chicken, celery, *mustard, all nuts, all fish, *lobster, *green beans, peas, *corn, *garlic, *onion, *yeast, eggs alone, melon. deer

Daddy: all poultry (chicken, turkey, duck pretty much anything with feathers)all nuts, eggs, milk, clam, all fish, (shellfish are fine) beef, pork, banana, apple, blueberry, all melon, oranges, peach, pear, pineapple, strawberry, mushroom, oat, hops. This is only 29 but he tested positive for more that are just slightly positive. Right now daddy is sort of eating anything that doesn’t show an effect. It’s too hard for a grown man to eliminate so many foods. His main DO NOT EATS are poultry, fish, dairy, nuts and eggs. Everything else he’s doing in moderation and appears to be doing just fine.

Tinleigh: feeding tube Jan 2014
1. Black olives and blueberries
2. Rice and green beans – failed
current trial 3. chocolate chips, bananas, squash

These are the foods she was off of prior to the tube: Milk, chicken, apple, nuts, tree nuts, fish, shell fish, soy, banana, potato, beans, banana, mango, grapes, wheat, rice, oats, corn, beef, pork. Basically all grains and all meats.

Myself : nothing
Nathan : all poultry, dairy, egg, sometimes pork and probably 30 other foods he tolerates just enough that he still eats them.

* Foods in orange have been added back into the diet.

* Foods in green we’ve had to remove again

  1. Wow! I feel for you. It is actually quite interesting. Your husband is the only other person, besides my husband that I have ever heard of that is allergic to all poultry. My 8 year old son also has EE and after being on several elimination diets, with little improvement and increased eos, he is now on an elemental only diet. He drinks Neocate Splash “juice boxes” all day. We have often wondered if my husband has EE, but he has not been scoped. If he accidently ingests poultry many of his symptoms are similiar to those of EE. But for now, he manages by avoidance and there has not been a real reason to have him scoped.

On Andrew’s last elimination diet he was off 13 foods, including the top 8 allergens. He has an older sister, and I completely understand not wanting to make one feel bad. Andrew did extremely well and eventually got used to it, however, I did my best to imitate what I made for the rest of us using safe ingredients for him. I’d be happy to share ideas with you if you’d like to email me.

    Good luck!

  2. That’s so awesome that you’ve been able to add foods back to their diet. We have yet been able to add anything back! Hopefully after today’s scope we’ll get to add wheat back! It would open up so much for my little guy!
I definitely know what you’re going through with the baby! My 8 month old twin girls are very similar. My smaller baby (was bigger than her sister at birth) was not gaining any weight on my milk even with the elimination of both dairy and wheat from my diet and didn’t do well on Alimentum either, she literally cried all day! She is now on Elecare and doing fairly well! Her sister was put on neosure for 2 feeds today since they were premature and was having bloody diapers. So, no dairy for her either. We’re still nursing but she gets Elecare for her other 2 feeds everyday! I’m hoping it’s just a dairy allergy and not EoE. If it is, who better than to have a child with it than someone who’s been LIVING with it for over 7 years (DS was diagnosed at 12 months, almost 8 yrs ago)! It is what it is, and at least we know what to look for! Good luck with your little ones! Crossing my fingers and toes little Tinleigh doesn’t have it!

    • I have no idea how you’re doing it with twins. God Bless you! I like you’re “it is what it is” attitude. My husband uses that phrase A LOT! Let’s hope none of the little girls have it!

  3. Did your allergist test for all of these items through skin test or blood test? Or did you find out through elimination diets? My daughter was tested for “everything” according to her allergist…but that was only 30 items….all of which were negative.

    • We did skin testing for everything and blood testing on those things that were high on the skin test. I believe it was probably around 30 foods. Its not uncommon for the test to come back negative. Its a small percentage of eoe kids.

  4. My 17 month old son was recently diagnosed with EoE. We are starting the 6 food elimination diet with him tomorrow. He has had the skin prick allergy testing done and comes back negative for all foods. We are scheduling a patch test for him to see if that shows any allergies that the skin prick didn’t. Thank you for keeping your blog, it is over whelming to get this diagnosis but I’m glad to see that there is a EoE community out here for support.
